Quay Perth
As far as city boltholes go, Quay Perth is up there with the best. A home away from home, it has that all-important factor that real estate agents rave about: location, location, location.
Staying at Quay Perth, you’ll often pull out your phone to order an Uber, only to realise you’re within walking distance of much of the city’s best eating, drinking, and culture. Staying in? The ground floor coffee shop, Community at Quay, hits the spot from 6:30am weekdays and 7:00am on a weekend. Up on the rooftop, meanwhile, HQ Bar + Kitchen offers more than just convenience, with a focus on local producers and Asian-influenced seasonal menus.
While the hotel sits at the larger end of the boutique spectrum, the level of service always feels personal, and the light-filled room designs are functional and modern, presented with a real sense that details have been thought through. Bathrooms are luxurious, and there’s plenty of space to relax and work. It’s pared back, calming even, thanks to the work of renowned Perth-based interior designer Malvina Stone.

Como The Treasury
Perhaps the most COMO thing you can do during a stay at this historic property — which sits lightly and respectfully within the three 19th-century State Buildings in central Perth — is take an early morning swim.
Walking down the wide, elegant heritage hallways and emerging into the warm glow of the tranquil blue indoor pool, surrounded by travertine paving, soft jazz, and the distant peal of church bells feels like stepping into your own private corner of Italy.
But the pool is just one of countless elements that speak to the exquisite sense of quiet luxury in this intimate, boutique hotel. Each of the 48 rooms and suites has its own serene grandeur; some feature heritage balconies, others truss ceilings or views across the Buildings’ masterfully reconstructed wrought-iron turrets.
A stay here would not be complete without a booking at the equally elegant Wildflower restaurant, which celebrates the six seasons of the Noongar Indigenous calendar, or a signature massage at the celebrated COMO Shambhala Urban Escape. If all that sounds too energetic, acquiesce completely to the gentle art of doing almost nothing at all and retire to the watercolour-filled library with a book. Luxury comes easily here, at every tempo.

TRIBE Perth
When you walk into a hotel foyer and see it packed with locals who aren’t guests, but are there to eat, meet, set up the laptop and soak up the atmosphere, you know it’s doing something right. TRIBE has that brief nailed.
What lures creatives, executives and dreamers here from all over the city is partially the hyper-luxe decor: crayon-coloured graphic sofas, terrazzo tiles, Klieg lights angled across the ceiling. It’s also the café-cum-bar that serves up coffee in the morning, cocktails in the evening, and grab-and-go snacks whenever you need them. But, more than anything, it’s an intangible feeling that this is a place where work and play blend beautifully into one.
If you’re fortunate enough to be toting your suitcase for an overnight stay, the rooms are small but perfectly formed. Each has just enough space for a bed, a bathroom and brilliant views across the city and Kings Park next door. Every room is painted in its own pink, green, blue or white scheme – and those in the know say that light, bright, white walls and greenery views make the TRIBE Kings Park View Room the one to earmark if you can.

Wonil Hotel Perth
She’s a good-looking one, this almost-new build boutique hotel on the banks of the Swan River.
Wonil Hotel Perth’s lobby is spectacular — spacious and filled with deep sofas, casually stacked art books, and an Indigenous sculpture work. Rooms and suites are layered with felt, wood and neutral tones, augmented by subtly luxurious details such as artfully carved cupboard handles. And the broad terrace, as well as the rooms that face south, have sunset-splashed Swan River views. There’s plenty of prettiness to be found on the plate, too, at West Kitchen & Bar, which serves an entirely West Australian menu from breakfast to dinner.
Yet good looks are only part of the Wonil Hotel story; there’s a strong feel-good factor as well. Through a unique operating model, net revenue from the property is reinvested back into the Forrest Research Foundation (FRF), which drives research and innovation capacity in Western Australia by awarding fellowships and scholarships to the best and brightest researchers from around the world. The FRF scholars and fellows work across WA’s five universities, intending to confront some of the world’s biggest challenges – a worthy stay, with a worthier cause.

Alex Hotel
With its urban design, boutique charm and prime location, Alex Hotel is a stylish escape from the buzz of Northbridge.
The six-storey retreat — by Fremantle-based architects Spaceagency — is edgy and urban, with each floor kitted out in a distinct colour palette. Interiors, courtesy of Sydney-based Arent&Pyke, are outfitted with Breuer-inspired seating, comfy armchairs and velvet upholstery. Communal spaces for work or relaxation, such as the colourful mezzanine lounge, feel like hip members’ clubs, what with rotating local art on the walls, a record player and LPs to sift through, as well as perfectly positioned books and lifestyle magazines.
Hanging out is encouraged here, but rooms are just as comfortable and considered, with custom beds and neat touches like earplugs to ensure a deep sleep even within a stone’s throw of the surrounding nightclubs. Sleek bathrooms with rain showers are a definite drawcard, as are the west- and south-facing rooms, which have balconies with CBD views. Much like stepping foot into your very cool friend’s abode, you’ll feel immediately at ease and at home here.

The Adnate Perth — Art Series
Walk past The Adnate — Perth’s only Art Series Hotels property — and chances are you’ll want to book your stay straight away.
The 25-storey portrait on the building’s exterior – designed by the hotel’s namesake, street artist Matt Adnate – is one of Perth’s most arresting landmarks and the largest mural in the Southern Hemisphere. The faces of the man and two women he’s depicted overlook Hay Street and the whole city with deep gazes of serenity and strength – a fairly good metaphor for the hotel itself.
Artistic and vibrant, The Adnate comes across as a place to stay with a strong sense of identity. The decor is anchored by 650 of Adnate’s prints, expertly accented with colourful posters and sculptures. Heck, even the bed runners in the rooms and suites resemble paint-spattered canvases. What’s more, the service is assured, the food has a point of view and you’re right in the heart of the city.
On level one, the BAHA Poolside Bar & Kitchen pulses with beachy Caribbean spirit, and it’s a rare day you won’t find someone making a splash in the adjoining heated outdoor pool. As a whole, The Adnate is like a living, breathing gallery, one that invites you to dive right in and become a part of the canvas.

QT Perth
Everything feels a little bit rock and roll, a little bit glamour at the West Coast’s only QT Hotel. You’ll catch glimpses of fashion-forward cool as soon as you enter the lobby: artworks such as floating mirrors and canvases casually propped on easels burst with colour, and the vibe carries on everywhere as you glide over the hotel’s jarrah floors. In your room, your bedhead could be flecked with flocks of black cockatoos, a symbol of the West, while meeting rooms speak to WA’s mining heart — check out the seams of gold running across the ceilings.
In the moody Santini Bar, Manhattan comes to Murray Street by way of smoky Negronis or essential Martinis, and the soigné Santini Grill is always packed, year-round. Factor in service that is always fresh and friendly, rose-gold sunsets over the CBD from the rooftop bar, and you have yourself a glossy, gilded getaway.

The Marina Hotel
The Marina Hotel feels like a nod to a bygone era of salty, sun-kissed Australian beachside holidays. Not that it’s a kitschy or retro place to stay, mind you. Here, the mood across the 18 rooms is decidedly relaxed and understated, calling on a sandy colour scheme and timber furniture to drive home that coastal sensibility. Want to experience it firsthand? Just slip out onto your own private tiled balcony, and you’ll be met with views of the many boats in the still waters of The Marina.
From the selection of multi-room suites to the on-site pool surrounded by loungers and for-hire cabanas, your needs are covered regardless of whether it’s a family getaway, work trip or romantic escape. There’s virtue aplenty in holing up here for a few days, no doubt, but action is never far away; descend onto the boardwalk, and you’ll find a hub of activity right at your fingertips. If you’re in the mood to explore a little further, bikes for hire are available at The Marina, and hotel staff will happily provide a map of local paths and trails that allow you to explore the nearby coastline. Perth may only be 30 minutes south by car, but it won’t take long for it to feel like a lifetime away.

Esplanade Hotel Fremantle
Freo is known for its nautical charm, and you’ll understand why the moment you set foot along one of its many quaint streets. Chock full of colourful nineteenth-century shopfronts and heritage buildings, the port city is a mix of old-world maritime history and modern cosmopolitan culture by the sea, making it a popular stop on many Western Australia itineraries.
The Esplanade Hotel boasts an equally heady history; the oldest part of the property dates back to 1850, and today it reigns as the largest hotel in the area with, multiple dining options and an enviable position that puts it within easy reach of first-rate attractions nearby. The interiors – all deep blues and grey hues – nod to the hotel’s coastal setting, and a recent refurb has upgraded the rooms, most of which feature private balconies and views of its namesake park or one of the Esplanade’s two outdoor swimming pools.

Pan Pacific Perth
Classics are classics for a reason, and the spacious, elegantly designed, and centrally located Pan Pacific Perth has stood the test of time. Not that it has rested on any laurels. The 488-key property is halfway through a sparkling renovation — already complete in most rooms and suites — which is making its well-proportioned bones even better. Guests can expect a fresh new colour scheme, decor that references Western Australia’s vast natural landscape and dozens of thoughtful extras (including one of the sleekest in-room dining systems you’ll find anywhere) that will turn what was already a key player in Perth’s hotel scene into something truly special.
Business travellers are well-catered for here, what with 18 versatile meeting and event spaces, including two ballrooms (and a conference concierge to make sure everything runs smoothly). But if you’re in town simply to have a good time, the Pan Pac has your back. The heated outdoor pool, splashed with lively murals, is a coveted luxury in Perth, and Más Vino Wine Bar is a convivial gathering place for wine experts and novices to taste, socialise and trade wine lore.
The Pan Pacific is a classic, without a doubt. But it’s a classic with some very cool twists.

Intercontinental Perth City
They’re not immediately obvious, but if you look closely, you’ll see them. Small, discreet details — such as squarish panels mimicking portholes — that remind guests the InterContinental Perth City Centre was once the site of a shipping company. Thoughtful, design-centric elements like these make this 240-key hotel — with interiors by celebrated firm Woods Bagot — one of the most aesthetically pleasing hotels in Perth. Art is at the heart of everything here, with more than 300 pieces on display, including standouts like the bewitching Forest Drift glass sculpture from Perth artist Gerry Reilly that floats like a flock of birds above your head as you enter the lobby.
This InterContinental outpost isn’t just a pretty face, however. There’s plenty of substance to back up the style, including the smartly organised suites – in tones of mushroom and gold — equipped with full-sized desks for working, and a well-appointed business centre. The team at Club InterContinental greet members by name and will organise your table to optimise it for a business meeting or personal moment of relaxation. Hotel dining, meanwhile, hits another level at Heno & Rey and Ascua, the two Spanish-inspired restaurants on-site, and the terrace bar overlooking Perth’s heritage precinct is no less exquisite. It’s these little differences that make all the difference.
